Aotearoa People in Your Neighbourhood 2010!

Date: 04/05/2010 - 16/05/2010

This year's People in Your Neighbourhood programme will offer music workshops and performances that promote Creative Commons and the gift of music for New Zealand's diverse social fabric.

This May the British Council's People in Your Neighbourhood programme will spread across various locations in Auckland, Taupo and Wellington. Among the lineup Charlie Dark (UK), Urban Soul Orchestra (UK), Submariner, TaayNinh, Riki Gooch, Le Nuong, Isaac Aesili, Alda Rezende, Mohawk Media, Cian, Rio Hemopo, TommeeT and Gmuva. This is an incredibly exciting opportunity for New Zealanders to experience their own community's diverse musical identities in conjunction with international acts.

All the PIYN shows will be live-streamed online, and will then become available under a Creative Commons licence for future reuse. The 2009 PIYN Creative Commons album is here on lastfm and some individual track lines are available for remixing on CC-Mixter.

To accompany live shows, PIYN is offering free workshops run by Charlie Dark, the Urban Souls Orchestra and Mohawk Media that pass on expert knowledge about genre mixing, track recording, looping, sampling, beat-boxing, then publishing and distributing your work electronically.

Of special interest will be Helen Baxter's Creative’s Online Toolkit Workshops ..."for creatives covering online branding and publishing using wordpress, independent digital music distribution, publishing/print on demand systems, Creative Commons licensing for remixing, paypal payments and donation systems, project & event management tools, online & mobile streaming for gigs, plus merchandise and social media marketing with Twitter & Facebook."

Head down to her May 7th Auckland session at Auckland University of Technology, or join CC New Zealand for the second installment at Wellington's Quality Hotel on the 14th.
